Hi all I was wondering if it was natural to get really bad headaches and start to feel sick to your stomach if your really stressed out. I've been getting these ever lasting headaches everytime I get stressed out and they stay for hours and hours until I go to sleep. It's even gotton to the point to where I've got sick to my stomach.

Have you seen a doctor about this problem? What do you usually do to help aleviate stress when you start feeling sick to your stomach?

Dude, it sounds like you've got migraines. I got my first one this year, and it sounds exactly like yours, nausea (I actually threw up during my first one), and mine lasted for about 12 hours. If you want, I can send you some migraine info. If you tell me a little more about your symptoms (like where you have the most pain from the migraine), I might even be able to tell you what kind of migraine you're having and how to help.

What usually happens before you get those headaches, if you can trace the usual pattern, then it will be easier to know how to cure it and to find ways to lessen it. Probably your stress level is causing you to have a headache.

I had my first migrain episode last semester and please believe me it was the worst pain because it felt like big rocks were banging on to my head. literally it felt as if someone was beating me with a baseball bat.
this headache lasted 3 days and any over the counter painkiller did not help an any way. i took tylenal, asprin, motrin, you name it, it did nothing at all.
any noise like tv or my jfw on my computer will just burst me to tears and make it worse.
the next day i had that headache i just sat in my room and cried and sobbed uncontrolably and loudly because of the terrible pain.
also i felt alittle dizzy and off balance the next day but it was a very slight feeling of dizzyness that i did not even mention mom or the doctors.
by the next day which was the third most painful and grewling day, i went to the doctors on good friday and had to take very strong prescription meds called tylenal3 which had heavy doses of kodine which made me feel drowsy and totally lost my appetite because it threw my taste buds off totally.
that did not even help although it was a slight improvement but it was almost nothing.
the doctor suggested that if the medications don't work, then i would have to be in the hospital overnight to get very strong injectionshots of pain medication for the headache.
I am not exagerating an any way because that is what the doctor said before i started taking this ugly medication.
i did not want to spend at a hospital during easter because that is very bad.
since then when i get stressed, sometimes i get slight headaches which start off as me being alittle off balance.
so, i lay down and just chill because then if i don't do anything than i get pretty sick.
fortunately i had no classes or else i would have missed 3 days of classes if that happened at my dorm.

oh, and the only way i felt better is just laying in bed. without moving at all.
it is not natural to get these ugly migrains trust me.
this one episode totally made me realize that sometimes growing up can be hard, but we just go too far.
being an adult is hard, but sometimes i push myself way to far mostly because of how i have been brought up by my parents.
Sometimes i want to do things perfectly because i try to avoid mistakes that put guilt written all over my face and i do have problems with that because i feel very bad and sad.
part of the cause of my migrain was stressing about doing good in school and being pressured by one of my caseworkers who told me that i should do everything and that she doesn't need involved.
i would usually cram as much to do things on a day that sometimes i forget to eat and i guess that caused it.

Well, now that you're an adult, it's not up to anyone but you to decide how much work you can handle. Don't make yourself sick trying to please other people.

thanks to the heavy doses of kodein, i had a year worth of no cramps in my stomach at all which is lol good.
and hello becky, how are you?
i know that everyone wants the best for me, but i can't always do too many things at once.
see last year i had alot of schoolwork and had to endure a horrible set of lectures from my caseworker and i got totally stressed and agrivated about that because she was like "u are not responsible enough to handle your own stuff and you count on others to do things for you and bla bla bla bla, untill you don't learn how to handle your problems, you won't be recomended for an internship and won't graduate next year and all of that mess. so i stressed about it and that i think triggered a headache that lasted 3 long and very dibilitating days.
i told mom, "next time i get one of those headaches, please bring all of my stuff to my bedside because i wouldn't be able to move because with each move, it throbs worse."
i tink i am prone to that even though i get it very infrequently thank god.

I've gotten migraines ever since early 1995. They were extremely frequent back in the 90's and into the early 2000's, but they've tapered off quite a bit, and now they're very rare. However, when I do get them, they are totally incapacitating. I get very dizzzy and light-headed, and will pass out if I try to stand/walk. I just have to lay down, and ride the pain out till I can finally sleep. They leave me totally exhausted, and with a bit of a residual headache for about the next 24 hours. However, thankfully they only last for a few hours. Mostly I like it quiet, but it does help to have at least one other person to talk to, to give my mind something else to focus on besides the pain. The other thing that helps is making sure I control my breathing. It's easy to breathe more quickly and shallow, in response to the extreme pain, but that only makes it worse. So I consciously make myself breathe slowly and evenly through the worst of it.

I some times get headaches, but not like that. It is mostly when my period is due or if I am tired. When I am tired I get cramp all over for some reason.

yeah, for the poster above, you are fortunately lucky because it lasted you for a few hours.
but for me, it lasted all of the 3 most important days of lent which includes holy thursday, good friday and the day before easter.
seriously mom freeked out and thought i was starting to get a terrible disease, i don't know what she was thinking but she freeked out alot same as my brother.
she kept asking me if i felt like i was going to faint, but i just couldn't say anything.
this indeed was my first episode at age 21 which for me is too young for all this crap.

after a first episode, are you prone to them though?
